Noise Tolerance

During Lucy’s first few months, you may be apprehensive about bringing her into noisy public places for fear of damaging her hearing. Rest assured, what is bearable for you is even more so for her. Lucy doesn’t hear as well as you do, and young babies have an interesting feature called suppression: a shutoff mechanism that makes the baby completely oblivious to excessive stimulation. That’s why you often see babies sleeping peacefully in a room full of loud people.
