Penis

Penis Care
Penises are pretty much maintenance free, whether circumcised or uncircumcised. Doctors used to recommend pulling and retracting the foreskin to clean the penis and detach the skin. This is both painful and unnecessary; the white stuff that accumulates under the foreskin is not dirt but rather a coating substance with the lovely name of smegma. Since smegma is a natural secretion from the skin of the penis, there is no reason to remove it. Even if you did, more would appear. Just clean Jimmy’s penis as you would clean his foot or hand: use plenty of water. Aggressive cleaning or retracting, of course, will create redness
or irritation.

Red Penis
Apart from the natural swelling boys witness in their penises, they may also experience occasional redness and additional swelling due to irritation. In infants, you can probably blame diaper rash, but in older kids who have shed their diapers, masturbation is usually to blame. In either case, the condition resolves on its own after a couple of days. When masturbation is the culprit, the pain of irritation discourages further exploration . . . for a while. If the swelling and redness persist beyond a couple of days or worsens, have a doctor examine the area for possible infection.

Tight Foreskin
In some uncircumcised kids the foreskin is very tight and seems like it will never retract. This condition, called phimosis, is a normal anatomical variant. Years ago, doctors would routinely recommend that parents yank the skin down to free the penis, or even have the kid circumcised. Forceful retraction is still practiced, despite medical evidence that it is not just futile but harmful. If you pull on it, the skin around the head can become inflamed and swollen, and the tight foreskin can even strangle the head of the penis. If Jimmy happens to have a tight foreskin, leave it alone. He’ll eventually loosen it up with masturbation in his own time and on his own terms.

No Penis
In chubby infants and toddlers, the penis can sometimes be buried in the pubic fat. Press on the fat, and the penis will pop out. This baby fat will eventually disappear, revealing the precious attributes that were hiding under Jimmy’s too, too solid flesh.
